What makes a memorable artwork? Is it the brilliance of execution? The novelty of the idea? A clever concept? Passionate and emotive delivery? Intensity perhaps or an element of whimsy? Is it in the aesthetic, the beauty of line, grace of form? Is it something familiar restated, or something jarring and unfamiliar captured?

Throughout all these permutations the quality of encounter is central. A sculpture is a reflective space. When a work is figurative that encounter can be deeply personal and profoundly human.

Our twentieth year Retrospective Exhibition was full with such encounters. A place where bronzes walked amongst the living, floated above our heads, nested in corners. People found themselves thinking and talking about figure and form, message and meaning.

The day was like spun gold, sunshine flooding through our open doors and windows. Maggie Beer's speech was generous and warm, perfectly pitched. Local produce, boutique wines from Adelina, and Artisan Cheeses gave a sense of abundance. Lively conversations and that warm conviviality that connects a community of like minded people completed the day. We had a few sales, wonderful feedback on our sculpture and the chance to reconnect with clients from across the last three decades of work.

Exhibition work gives us, as artists, the freedom to allow imagination to roam free. The small works are the creative fuel of the sculptor’s journey. This is our playtime.

Abstract ideas blend with whimsical adaptations to create surprising new outcomes. Found objects marry with carefully sculpted forms, new works with old, traditional materials with experimental techniques. Serendipity is allowed to play its cards
